41.- MARCH 28 AGRA (TAJ MAHAL/SUNSET) INDIA

TAJ MAHL,
SHAH JEHAN’S enduring "Monument to love". Its unique beauty and immaculate intricate execution all contribute to the breathtaking first impression.

A place of astonishing beauty and architectural marvel.

Emperor SHAH JEHAN, was devoted to his wife MUMATZ MAHAL (Jewel of the palace). She died at age 39 giving birth to her fourteenth child and he went into mourning for two years, turning away from running the Mughal empire and getting involved with his other great love-architecture.

He resolved to build his wife a memorial surpassing anything the world had ever seen in beauty and wild extravagance. Twenty thousand laborers and skilled craftsmen from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy were put to work to construct this unrivaled masterpiece. Construction started in 1631 A.D. It took twenty two years to build and some twenty thousand laborers.

Our sunset and sunrise visits to the TAJ MAHAL, considered as the world’s most beautiful building,. were an absolute highlight of this trip.
