28.- MARCH 13 VIETNAM HUE

After an hour drive, we arrived to HUE, the former capital of the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty (BETWEEN 1802 AND 1945). A small serene city of canals boasting splendid historical sights. Recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural World Heritage Site is an important center for Buddhism with hundreds of temples and pagodas.

Water buffaloes are used for farming. Old tradition calls for burying the departed on the rice fields they worked and owned.









IMPERIAL CITY, also called Imperial Enclosure, was once a complex of palaces and pavilions where religious ceremonies took place. Inside is the FORBIDDEN PURPLE CITY, the restricted residence of the emperors and his concubines. .

Much was destroyed during the Vietnamese War, still is possible to see evidence of its past glory
