Mombasa, second largest city in Kenya, (Still very much a Third World country) was once the gateway to East Africa. International commerce has been part of life in Mombasa for the past 2,000 years, and its Arab, African, Asian and European population reflects its cosmopolitan history.
Thanks to Italians, basil is everywhere, along with olive oil, garlic and fresh lettuce.
The Portuguese introduced tomatoes, corn and cashews.
Today, MOMBASA is a major hub for the import of grains to East Africa.
In the early morning, we had a short coach transfer to the Mombasa Airport. Then we flew 1-hour in a chartered aircraft to AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK for a game drive in open air mini-vans with pop-top roofs.
AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK is dominated by Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Big swamps are fed from underneath by melting snows of the mountain.
Lunch at the "Ol Tukai Lodge" with welcoming from the Maasai.
They preserve their culture and tradition.
Very proud, tall and beautiful people.
They love to
jump high, while
performing their dance ceremony!
